Michael did not know what to expect. Kersen had woken him up with a phone call, saying he had some news, but of what sort? At least he had not sounded injured, or upset. After pulling on some track bottoms and a tank top, Michael had made coffee, and it was dripping into the pot when Kersen knocked on the door. He went and opened it, moving out of the way for the vampire to come in.

"With that trial," Michael worked out. It was smart, using Clark that way. He searched Kersen's face, then asked, "How are you feeling about all of this?"

[kersen]

"Relieved," said Kersen. "But don't worry, I didn't just throw myself at his feet in gratitude. I'm trying to both be cautious and be smart."

One of Michael's eyebrows twitched up at the addendum; he hadn't been worried that Kersen might have, and was amused at the assurance. "Good," was all he said to that.

[kersen]

"Coffee," Kersen suggested, when he looked over and saw that it had stopped dripping.

He leaned back against the counter and said, "I think the guy might be a Viking or something. He looks like someone's drawing of a Norse god. Except apparently he's here by way of America."

Michael pulled his hand off Kersen and stepped over to the coffee machine, grabbing a mug on his way. "Do you know the name he goes by?" Michael asked as he poured himself a cup, then raised the pot with a look at Kersen to ask if he wanted any.

[kersen]

"Northman," said Kersen. "Eric Northman." Which itself probably said something about he Norse thing.

He nodded in response to the offer for coffee. He still felt a little bad about waking Michael up.

"I'll see what I can find out about him," Michael stated as he grabbed a second mug to fill it with coffee.

[kersen]

Kersen was kind of doubtful that Michael would find much in his particular circles, but hey, who knows. Michael often surprised him.

He definitely wouldn't tell Michael that Eric had referred to him as his (Kersen's) human.

"I can't help but feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders," he said.

"It has," Michael confirmed, and held the mug out to him. "Responsibilities - and control." It wasn't all good, although some of it was, especially given how reluctant Kersen had been to take on the mantel in the first place.

[kersen]

Kersen took a sip of the coffee. "Are you disappointed?" he asked after a moment.

"I'm wary," Michael replied simply. Disappointment was not on the spectrum of things he felt about this new development.

[kersen]

"That is a reasonable thing to be," Kersen said. He took another sip of the coffee, and then set it down.

"And I just want to say again... thank you. For being there for me through all this. I know you probably don't want to hear it, but I feel it."

The truth was, Michael had no particular feeling about hearing it. He had wanted to help Kersen, and so he had. It didn't mean he didn't know how to respond to thanks, so he simply told him, "You're welcome," even as he kept on thinking of this new development, and what it might or might not entail.

Kersen sighed a little, noticing against that Michael had obviously just rolled out of bed. "Though there's no reason I couldn't have waited until tomorrow evening to tell you, instead of dragging you out of bed."

"I don't mind," Michael assured him. It was the sort of news he would rather get as quickly as possible. You never knew what might come of it. He finished his coffee, then asked, "Do you want to stay?"

[kersen]

Kersen glanced the time on his phone and then said, "As long as you don't mind that I'll be stuck here until sunset."

"I don't mind," Michael echoed, turning to put the mug in the sink.

[kersen]

"It's been quite a night," Kersen said, and he slipped behind Michael, wrapping arms around his waist.

The posture wasn't something Michael was used to, but after a few seconds, he managed to relax into the moment, leaning back against the taller vampire and even going as far as putting a hand over his. After a short while, he turned his head over his shoulder and offered, quietly, "Come to bed?"

[kersen]

Kersen had his eyes closed, allowing himself to enjoy the moment. It was so domestic, so normal. It was nice.

"Yes please," he murmured.

Michael nodded slightly, then pulled away, leading the way towards the bedroom.

[kersen]

Kersen was already unbuttoning his shirt as he followed after Michael.

It always made him smile a little seeing Michael's room, and remembering that he was basically the reason that the man had a bed at all.

Michael sat on the edge of the bed and watched Kersen in silence, his gaze as intense as ever as he took off his shirt.

It really had been quite a night for Kersen, and he felt adrenaline still lingering.

After he removed his own shirt, he moved forward and dropped to his knees between Michael's legs, sliding hands up his thighs and looking up at him.

Michael reached up to stroke fingertips down the side of Kersen's face. The gesture, coupled with the look, for one who had grown to know him as Kersen, gave a message as clear as if he had said the words, you are so beautiful. His hand shifted to cradle the side of Kersen's head, fingers curling on his nape, and he pulled him into a long, deep kiss.
